We have the photographs but not the dates
Images with no location, no time and no context are worth very little at the point they're needed.
What's happening?
There are thousands of them: progress shots, phone photos, images forwarded through apps that strip out the original details as they go. Nobody doubts the photographs are real. The trouble starts when one of them matters, and the question is not what does it show but when was it taken, where exactly, and by whom, and the honest answer is sometime, somewhere, someone.
A photograph's value in an argument is its provenance. Undated and unplaced, it proves that something happened somewhere once, and the other side's surveyor knows it. The same image, indexed on the day it was taken, what it shows, when and where, why it was kept, where the original file lives, is evidence. The difference between the two is ten minutes a week, paid now or paid tenfold later when somebody has to rebuild provenance from memory.
The log is the discipline made cheap: an indexed register the photographs go into as they are taken, so the album the job already produces becomes a file the account can actually use.
