Check the deduction every month it is made

Retention errors compound quietly: a wrong rate, a deduction past the cap, retention taken on items the contract excludes. Check each month's deduction against the clause when the certificate arrives, while the month is still open. Stopping each in its month is a sentence in an email; chasing a year of them at the final account is misery.
