Forecast Final Account

The number the business plans on.

Where the job actually lands: value weighted by how likely each item is to be recovered, cost to complete built from run rates rather than optimism, and the risks and opportunities that could move either. Jobs that report well for eleven months and badly in the twelfth are ones where one of those three parts was missing.

How it works

Value at honest weights

Every item in the account carries a status, a basis and a likelihood, and counts at the value you actually expect rather than the value claimed. Honest weighting is the entire value of the sheet.

Cost to complete as a build up

What is left to spend, built from rates per period and the weeks remaining for each element, with a confidence and an owner against every line, instead of a subtraction from a budget.

Risks and opportunities, priced and owned

The third table holds what could move the landing position either way, priced and given an owner, so the forecast carries its own uncertainty in the open rather than hiding it in the weighting.

An Excel template with no macros. Only the yellow cells can be edited, the Guide tab explains every step, and it prints on A4. Your contract's terms come first.
