The other side has taken our figures apart
Their surveyor's response goes through our valuation line by line, and some of the hits have landed.
What's happening?
Every valuation built inside a team carries the team's blind spots, and a hostile line-by-line review is engineered to find them: the remeasure that shows the quantities generous, the rate benchmarked against a source you cannot better, the cost that appears under two heads, the preliminaries claimed as a percentage with nothing underneath.
The wrong response is to defend everything, because defending a bad figure invites doubt about the good ones. Triage instead: concede what is truly gone, repair what has a repair, and hold the line hard where the attack is rhetoric dressed as measurement, which some of it always is.
That triage is best done by someone who did not build the figures and has no pride invested in them.
The solution
Sort the hits from the noise, then answer each on its merits.
