Reconcile the cumulative position every single period
A valuation whose March and April cannot both be true invites doubt about May. Carry one cumulative position forward each period, reconcile it against what was last agreed, and where a line moves backwards, say why. An account that reconciles month on month becomes a proven story rather than a figure to defend at the end, and it is the difference between a clean final account and a fight.
